I just returned from 5 days in L.A., attending a conference dedicated to the latest information regarding internet marketing, new Google advertising rules, plus the new Visa and Master card requirements online.  These all affect most of my clients in one way or another, plus my own business.

Nearly 15,000 Google advertisers were "banned for life" with Google in the past weeks, shut down, due to lack of compliance with the internet FTC requirements effective in December 2009 and the new guidelines from Visa and Master card.  Google is THE big dog on internet search, owning about 71% of all search traffic and site rankings.  Whether you agree with their rules, or not, is irrelevant.  If you want to play in their game, you abide by their rules.  The tough part lately has been trying to figure out what the new rules are.

Here are a few basic rules for every business on the internet:

1.  Have a logo at the top of your website (best to have a tag line too)

2.  If you are offering an opt-in and ethical bribe - show a picture of what that "bribe item" is

3.  Have a privacy policy at the bottom of your site

4.  Include an "About Us' page

5.  Include "Other Terms and Conditions" at the bottom of your pages

6.  And, know there's much more criteria if you are using a landing page, moving a buyer to a sales page, that includes many more requirements than this if you are using Google Adwords advertising

The worst mistake you can make in your business marketing is to become predictable.  And, regardless of what you do in your marketing, stay legal and play by the "big boy" rules.  The Federal Trade Commission, Visa and Master Card merchant account controllers, and Google ... are no one to play with ... outside of their terms!
